Lavender Flowers

Also known as Lavandula Officinalis, lavender flowers/buds come from the plant family Lamiaceae (which also include mints) and have a variety of uses. They are very aromatic, and they maintain full aroma when in dry form. In terms of texture, they are dry but not crunchy. The flower buds are extremely light, so a small quantity will go a long way. The small buds originate from the flowers that bloom from late spring to early autumn and have a rich purple color.

In terms of aromatherapy, the lavender scent is commonly used for relaxation and peace of mind.  The buds are a great substitution to those who don’t like working directly with the oils.

The dried botanicals are great for making sachets that can be placed around the house, in drawers or commonly ignored household areas (think lavender moth balls). The sachets are great to hang near the door, window or even throughout your car to keep insects at bay.

You can also add them to a bowl as a potpourri, either by themselves or with other dried botanicals (Note they are most aromatic when placed in sunny/warm locations). They are great for making floral bath water, eye pillows (or simply adding to your regular pillow case for a fabulous nights sleep), or mixing into your soap making to add a gentle exfoliate to your final product.

You can even put them on the carpet before vacuuming to add some fragrance to your carpet when cleaning.  The possibilities are endless!

Finally, these lavender buds make great confetti for that upcoming wedding as they are extremely fragrant and earth friendly.

Whatever your use, dried botanicals are fantastic for people looking for an all-natural way to scent their homemade goodies. They also add a wonderful coloring and texture to those soaps and bath and body products.
